For the longest time, I've wanted to create a blog. I've kept an online journal for over twelve years, but I always wanted something that I could post publicly and share with everyone besides my personal friends. The only problem was that I never knew what to write about. I suppose I should honestly say that's still mostly true.
I have a lot of hobbies. I spend quite a bit of time participating in various creative writing endeavors, from working on my own novels to role-playing original or fandom characters with others. I've dabbled in fan-fiction. There's a huge collection of poetry leftover from my angsty teenage years. It's safe to say that writing is probably one of my favorite things to do, but I don't know if there's enough information for me to make a blog about it. For one, I can't exactly post any of my private, un-edited work or the things I'm writing with others.
So maybe reading, then? I love to read and have actually been contacted by several people to do book reviews for particular websites. I thought about this one for a long time, that perhaps I could do some combination of a reading and writing blog. Honestly, though, I think my reviews are crap. It's impossible for me to figure out how to review something without giving away all the secrets! But...it's obviously something I need to get better at doing, so maybe I could try.
The list goes on and on. I love to play video games, so maybe a gaming blog? Or a cooking blog for the times I actually sit down and try to make something. A personal blog, edited down to the things I feel comfortable sharing? Rants about the state of the world? I just don't know.
Then it occurred to me that I don't actually have to choose. It's my blog. If I want to make a post one day bitching about my foray into the world of publishing, and then follow it up with some pictures of cupcakes I baked or a review of a game I played...I can. I wasted so much time trying to figure out what I wanted to write about that I completely missed the obvious fact that I can write about literally anything.
So here I am. You'll find whatever I feel like posting here, from books to food to video games to personal topics of conversation. If I find things are getting too concentrated on one specific thing, well, maybe I'll change my mind. Until then, welcome to my blog!
